Tree cutting & pruning
Crown reductions, thinning and shaping to keep trees healthy, safe and letting light back into your garden.
Whether it's a single overgrown hedge, a protected oak that needs council consent, or a full commercial maintenance contract, our team handles it start to finish — including clearing away every last cutting.

Every tree is different, so the first thing we do is come and look at yours. We'll tell you what the tree actually needs — which is sometimes less work than you expected — quote a fixed price, and carry it out to industry good practice with the right kit, the right ropes and the right paperwork.
We carefully remove a proportion of the smaller inner branches so light and air move through the canopy again, without changing the overall shape or size of the tree. It's the go-to job for a heavy, congested crown that's shading the lawn or catching the wind.
Raising the lower branches to give clearance over a path, driveway, lawn or highway. Done properly it opens up the space underneath and brightens the garden while leaving the tree looking natural rather than stripped.
Bringing the height and spread in to suitable growth points so the tree keeps a natural outline. Ideal where a tree has outgrown its spot, is overhanging a neighbour or a roof, or where you simply want a bit more sky back.
A tidy-up of the canopy — dead, dying, diseased, crossing and broken wood taken out, along with any stubs, epicormic growth or leftover climbing gear. Nothing living and healthy is removed, so the tree keeps its shape and vigour.
Removing dead limbs before they come down on their own. Essential for trees over parking, footpaths, gardens and play areas, and it makes a real difference to how safe and cared-for a mature tree looks.
A hard cut back to established pollard points, then repeated on a regular cycle to keep a tree at a manageable size. Best suited to species that respond well to it, such as willow, lime and poplar — we'll tell you honestly if your tree isn't a candidate.
Where there's room to drop a tree safely in one go, straight felling is the quickest and most cost-effective option. We plan the fall zone, control the direction with ropes and wedges, and clear the site before we leave.
For tight gardens, tree-lined streets and anything near a conservatory, greenhouse or set of cables, we climb and take the tree down in controlled sections, lowering each piece on ropes. Slower, safer, and no damage to what's underneath.
Everything from an annual trim to serious renovation work — height reductions, reshaping, gapping-up and taking overgrown conifer or laurel hedges back under control. We check for nesting birds before we start, every time.
Ancient and veteran trees need a gentler hand. We use retrenchment pruning, careful weight reduction and habitat-friendly techniques to reduce risk while keeping as much of the old timber, deadwood and character as possible.
Thinning, coppicing, ride maintenance, glade creation and selective felling for small woodlands, copses and estate planting. We'll work to your management plan, or help you put a sensible one together.
If your tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order or sits in a Conservation Area, the council has to be asked first. We check the status, prepare the drawings and specification, submit the application on your behalf and keep you posted until consent comes through.
From a single tidy-up to a visit in the diary all year round, Happy Gardening helps you get the most out of your garden in every season. Most of our customers settle on a fortnightly visit — it keeps everything on top of itself, so the garden is always ready to sit out in rather than something on your to-do list.
Mowing with proper stripes, edges cut back sharp and clippings taken away — plus the small jobs that keep everything looking cared for between visits.
Pruning, dead-heading, cutting back and mulching so beds stay full and healthy rather than woody and overgrown.
Hand weeding of beds, gravel and block paving, with targeted treatment where it's needed to keep them from marching straight back.
Autumn leaf clearance from lawns, borders, paths and drives, blown, collected and removed before they smother the grass or turn a path slippery.
Every member of our team takes regular refresher training and keeps developing their qualifications. Work is carried out professionally and safely, and still finished quickly and efficiently — so you get the reassurance of proper tree surgeons without the job dragging on.
We carry £5 million public liability insurance and £10 million employers' liability insurance. We're happy to send copies over before we start — just ask, and we'll email them across with your quote.
